1. How STX Works
STX is a sports wagering exchange, not a traditional sportsbook. You buy and sell positions on sporting outcomes with other players, and STX doesn’t take the other side of your wager.
- Prices reflect the market. Other players’ buy and sell orders set each price, and STX does not set it.
- You can trade before the result. You can sell a position before an event ends to lock in a gain or limit a loss.
- Fees apply to some wagers. Wagers that add an order to the market (maker) are free. Wagers that fill an existing order (taker) pay a small fee based on the price and your loyalty tier, charged when the order fills. Your potential fee is shown before you confirm. Fee Schedule
STX is not a financial or investment tool. It is designed and intended solely for betting on sports.

2. Understanding Prices and Odds
Every STX market is a YES or NO question, and each contract settles at $1 if the answer is YES and $0 if it’s NO. The price, shown on a 0 to 100 scale, is the market’s estimate of how likely YES is. For example, a price of 68¢ means about a 68% chance.
- A buyer at 68¢ risks 68¢ to win 32¢ per contract. That means about a 32% chance of losing what you paid.
- A seller at 68¢ risks 32¢ to win 68¢ per contract.
- You can also show prices as American odds (-213) or decimal odds (1.47) in your settings.
No outcome is guaranteed, and losing is a normal part of wagering. Every past result is independent, so a run of wins or losses doesn’t change what happens next. After fees, most players lose money over time.

3. Tips for Keeping Play Fun
- Treat wagering as entertainment you pay for, not a way to make money.
- Set a budget and time limit before you start, and use our Player Protection Tools (section 7) to enforce them.
- Only wager money you can afford to lose. Never use money meant for bills, rent or savings.
- Don’t chase losses.
- Don’t wager when you’re upset, stressed, or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Take regular breaks and balance wagering with other activities.
4. Know the Signs of Problem Gambling
Problem gambling can be hard to spot because it has no obvious physical symptoms. Watch for these signs in yourself or someone close to you:
- Wagering more over time to get the same excitement
- Gambling more than you can afford, or borrowing money to gamble
- Repeatedly trying and failing to cut back
- Feeling restless or irritable when you can’t gamble
- Gambling to escape stress or emotional pain
- Hiding or lying about gambling
- Friends or family expressing concern
- Strained relationships, or being unable to focus on anything else
If any of these sound familiar, take the self-assessment (section 6) or see Get Help (section 8).
5. Myths vs. Facts
| Myth | Fact |
|---|---|
| “I’m due for a win.” | Each event is independent. Past results don’t affect future outcomes. |
| “I know the sport, so I can’t lose.” | Knowledge doesn’t control outcomes, and every wager carries risk. |
| “I can win back what I lost.” | Chasing losses usually leads to bigger losses. |
| “Gambling is a way to make money.” | Wagering is entertainment, and most players lose money over time. |
| “Problem gambling only affects people who wager a lot.” | Harm can start at any level of play. |
6. Problem Gambling Self-Assessment Tool
Take a few moments to reflect on your gambling over the past 12 months.
This confidential self-assessment takes about two minutes. It may help you better understand your gambling habits and find the responsible gaming tools and support resources that are right for you. There are no right or wrong answers, so please answer each question as honestly as you can.
If your results suggest your gambling may be causing harm, consider setting limits or taking a break (section 7), or call ConnexOntario at 1-866-531-2600.
